Compost

  • Compost works great as a soil amendment and conserves moisture. It is not fertilizer.

If you’re growing vegetables, give your vegetable garden plenty of compost in the fall. Spread several inches of compost on top of the existing bed, then till it into the soil in the springtime.  If you missed that fall window it’s fine to apply a couple of inches in the spring and tilling in. Once plants begin to grow you can add a half-inch layer of compost around the base of the plants.

For flowers In the spring, loosen the top few inches of annual and perennial beds and mix in a 1-inch layer of compost. Or in the fall, apply a 1-inch layer of compost as a mulch to protect plant roots from freezing and conserve moisture.  Some people prefer ocean-based nitrogen sources in their compost, we offer ocean-based compost to wholesale customers currently.

Wood Chips

  • Playground chips are a special blend that is meant to provide cushion and erosion control in heavy use areas such as playgrounds, and parks.

Wood chips work well as a mulch for trees, shrubs, and perennials and in some cases vegetable gardens. Depending on the use and your preference we have a few different kinds of wood chips available.

Bole Chips are whole tree chips minus the limbs.  You won’t find many small limb strands or leaves in bole chips. These chips also work well for cover on heavy use areas.

Ramial chips are whole tree chips including limbs, and leaves. Some experienced gardeners use them in the top inch of their gardens for a mulch with excellent results.

Bark Mulches

  • All bark mulches are customer preference based on color, type of trees or bark used, and whether they incorporate compost or not. Some offer different benefits based on the primary source of the bark.

All mulches are used to make your property more appealing, assist flower and shrub beds with erosion control, and most have a smell that is a wonderful addition to well-landscaped areas.

Sawdust & Shavings

  • Pine Sawdust, and Softwood shavings are primarily used for animal bedding but have been requested for garden mulches or other uses.  Please note these materials are priced by the ton and are sold on a wholesale basis only.
